FMP Production - Sep 19th Larry, The Run Up Portraits (LO7)

LO7

I filmed a podcast with Larry from the run a Bristol band. We talked about a fair amount of topics that are developed in the habitsandmindsets project. We talked about community mental and it was a perfect way to reach my identified audience; punk music fans. I deliberately left space around the the images with Larry for the text which I’m hoping to workshop with other artists that use text to get it started. I do feel that the amount of time i set aside to go over film a podcast and shoot portraits was a little on the shorter side. I’ve made a note to allow for more time in the future. Larry really wanted to do it at home understandably and it was a very decorative house and I struggled to find a open space or a more open space. It might work but I’ll find out when I start work shopping the text more.

I keep finding that the subjects I’m familiar with are the hardest to get a moment that’s a bit different they see me as a friend not a photographer but it does provide these moments of familiarity. I particularly like this image even though it would normally be in the discarded pile of unusable and breaks some very basic rules of portraiture like having the subjects eyes open. Even still I feel like this image conveys a sense of relief or lightheartedness and Larry having his eyes shut makes the gap for us to jump to empathises smaller.
