Thinking back to seeing the work of Gillian Wearing I was really interested in using text with images.

Wearing,Everything is connected in life. 1992

The work i’m looking at in here is from his project ‘ Signs that Say What You Want Them To Say and Not Signs that Say What Someone Else Wants You To Say’. I love they way that he has connected with strangers and braved a way to take portraits with the their secrets. Just his approach alone is admirable. People are always wearing of photographers and for an unknown one to take someone’s portrait and have them not just reveal a secret but to display it with their portrait is amazing to me.

From developing thoughts on my own work I wanted to choose lyrics from songs that mean a lot to me, i know that it is less personal but I think that the choice of them can say something powerful and also which image they are paired with can say a lot to. I’m trying not to be too precious about the decions I make and treat it like an experimental process.

The bands Bomb the music industry ( BTMI ) and O’pioneers are two major influences in my life and i listen to records and feel a lot when I do it can transport me to a different emotional state and I think thats the beauty of art, it’s ability to do this. Music Visual arts, poetry to me it is all relevant to my practice and i hope by merging the text from the music into my work it can have a duality in that it means a lot to me but can mean a lot of different things to different people. It’s this connectivity to the community and even just other human beings I love and would like to do more. I posted some images on instagram and they had more ;likes then the other images so i feel they work on a social media level quite well.
